Requirements for au pairs


Here's what you need to be an au pair in Switzerland:

  • You are between 17 and 25 years old (and up to 30 years old for EU and EFTA citizens).
  • Your native language is not the same as that spoken by the family and is different from the main language of the specific region of Switzerland.
  • You are unmarried and have no children.
  • You are willing to participate in a language course your stay in Switzerland.

Requirements for host families


Here's what you need to be a host family in Switzerland:

  • At least one child in your household is of school age or younger. 
  • You have either Swiss citizenship, a C permit (for "settled foreign nationals") or a B EU/EFTA permit (for "resident foreign nationals").
  • Your au pair should help with childcare and light housework in your home. 
  • You have very good knowledge of the language spoken in your region of Switzerland. 
  • You of a different nationality and speak a different language from that of your au pair.
  • At least one of the parents is predominantly at home and can support the au pair during at least half of their working hours.
  • You are prepared make time for your au pair time to attend a language course and will you cover the costs of the course.
